Note
When you create breaks on a route, or assign jobs or depots to a route, there are limitations that you must consider regarding the maximum number that can be used on a single route. For more information about these limitations, see the Route and Job Limitations page.
Use the Create Route dialog box to enter the details of a new route, and then manually assign it jobs. To create a new route:
-
Use the date control in the upper left corner of the Jobs List panel to select the date of the new route. You can also change day using the left and right arrows to move ahead or back one day at a time:
-
Click the Create Route button at the top of the Daily Routes panel.
The Create Route dialog box opens.
-
Type a descriptive name for the new route into the Route Name field. This is the name that appears in the list of routes and when hovering over a route in the DailyRoutes List or the Timeline. By default, new routes are automatically named using [Date] - [Driver] formatting if you do not manually specify a name.
-
Type a unique ID value to identify the route into the Route ID field. This value is optional, but can be helpful when filtering your routes, for example by Salesforce case. The value you enter must be unique, and can be up to 500 characters in length.
-
Select the territory the new route is assigned to from the Territory drop-down. A territory consists of customers, depots, drivers and vehicles. Only territories that have previously been configured in the fleet management platform (Jobs & Routes > Territories) can be selected in Verizon Connect® Dispatch™. The list contains only those territories that you have permission to access. If the territory you want to add is not listed, contact your administrator.
Tip
Once you have selected a territory, vehicle, driver and start and end job locations, you can quickly access the editor dialog boxes for your chosen settings by clicking on the Details button to the right of these fields.
-
Select the vehicle the new route is assigned to from the Vehicle drop-down. The vehicle selection window opens. Only vehicles assigned to the Territory selected in the previous step are available.
-
Type a vehicle name into the Search field to filter the vehicle you want from the list.
-
Use the back and next buttons to manually scroll through each page of vehicles, or enter a page number into the Page field to jump directly to that page.
-
-
Select the driver the new route is assigned to from the Driver drop-down.
-
Type a driver name into the Search field to filter the drivers you want from the list.
-
Use the back and next buttons to manually scroll through each page of drivers, or enter a page number into the Page field to jump directly to that page.
-
-
From the Location drop-down list, under the Start Depot section, select the location where this new route starts. This can be a depot, the driver's home, a job location, or any other previously defined marker location. If you have configured any of your marker categories to contain depot markers (by using the "Contains depot markers" check box from the Marker Categories screen), the selection panel shows markers of this type by default. To change to a different depot marker category, click on the Category drop-down list. If you have not specified any depot marker categories, the markers shown on the selection panel use the "HQ" category by default. If you have defined a secondary location for the selected driver, the start depot is automatically set to the location that was defined as the start depot. This could be the driver's base marker or the driver's secondary location.
-
For Time on Site, select the length of time that the vehicle will spend at the start location, for example loading or unloading the vehicle, fueling, or otherwise preparing it. The default value for this setting is defined for the selected vehicle under Vehicles > Edit Vehicle > Vehicle Information > Start Location or the equivalent territory default value (under Territories > Routing Settings).
-
From the Location drop-down list, under the End Depot section, select the location where this new route ends. As with the start location, this can be a depot, the driver's home, a job location, or any other previously defined marker location. The markers shown on the selection panel use the depot marker categories by default, if these have been configured, and they use the 'HQ' category markers by default, if they have not. The start and end depot locations can be the same, or they can be different values if the driver starts and ends at different locations. For example, if the driver starts each route at the depot for prep work at the start of the day, but ends at the driver's home. If you have defined a secondary location for the selected driver, the end depot is automatically set to the location that was defined as the end depot. This could be the driver's base marker or the driver's secondary location.
-
For Time on Site, select the length of time that the vehicle will spend at the end location, for example unloading it. The default value for this setting is defined for the selected vehicle under Vehicles > Edit Vehicle > Vehicle Information > End Location or the equivalent territory default value (under Territories > Routing Settings).
-
Click the Save button to save the route, or click the Shift Details tab to adjust the details of the driver's work shift and add any driver rest breaks on this route and then click Save. The new route is created and added to the Routes List.
Tip
You can save and close the dialog box by pressing "Ctrl + Enter" on your keyboard. The Save button must be highlighted for this to work.
Note
Changes to violations, cost, distance, driving time, route start time, and route end time might be recorded in the route history if these settings were modified outside of Verizon Connect® Dispatch™.
