Vehicle Icons

The following table shows the icons that are displayed by default to indicate the status of a vehicle or asset. If you have your map set to use very small icons, the appearance of these icons might differ slightly: for example, showing a single initial rather than spelling out an entire word.

Note

Right-click any vehicle icon on the map to open a contextual menu and perform tasks involving that vehicle. The tasks you can perform vary according to your account configuration, but include opening the Vehicle Details pop-up dialog box, changing the driver assigned to the vehicle, editing the vehicle's details on the Edit Vehicle dialog box, opening its fuel or maintenance logs, zooming the main map to the vehicle's location (Zoom to Vehicle), creating a marker or a job at the vehicle's location, adding it to the History screen, and polling the vehicle (to learn its current status and location).

Moving: The vehicle is moving in the direction of the arrow.

Idle: The vehicle is not moving, but the ignition is on. Note that a vehicle is considered not to be moving if its position has not changed for a certain period of time. There are two vehicle settings that affect this:

  • Idle Status Threshold. If a vehicle moves before this time elapses, it is not considered idle. This can lead to a status of moving at a speed of 0.

  • Moving Status Threshold. If a vehicle reports a change in location less than this distance, it is not considered to have moved. (This distance compensates for minor changes in location that are artifacts of the GPS signal.

Working: The criteria for this status depend on the asset type:

  • By default, if a vehicle is idle but a productive input is on, the vehicle is considered to be working.

  • You can specify in the asset type that an asset is working whenever the ignition is on.

To see this icon, you must have it enabled in the Vehicles settings.

Stopped: The vehicle is not moving and the ignition is off.

Charging: The vehicle is an electric vehicle and is charging.

No Signal: The vehicle has not reported valid GPS data after a timeout period has elapsed. By default, the timeout period is 30 minutes, but if your version of this product supports asset types, you can configure the timeout period for each asset type to any interval you want. For older unit types, which do not send reports when the ignition is off, if the status of the vehicle at the time of the last report was "stopped", then the vehicle stays in the "stopped" status rather than changing to a "no signal" status after the timeout period. (If the last status of the vehicle was one in which the ignition was on, or if the unit has an asset type that is configured for sending signals when the ignition is off, the status changes to "no signal" after the timeout period.)

Needs Maintenance: This icon alternates with another status icon if the vehicle is due for scheduled maintenance, or if the vehicle is actively reporting Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). To see this icon, you must have enabled it in the vehicles settings. Not all versions support this option.

Alert: This icon is displayed in histories when the vehicle is at a prohibited location or is speeding.

Private: This icon is displayed in histories, on the map, and in the Vehicles list if a vehicle is in Private Mode. The location of the icon on the map does not reflect the vehicle's actual geographical location, but rather the location of the vehicle when the driver enabled privacy mode.

These default icons are replaced if:

  • The vehicle or asset is idle, working, or stopped at a marker. In this case, the icon for the primary category of the marker is used instead.

  • The asset type specifies an icon to be used instead of the default icon.

Vehicle Map Icon Contextual Menu

Right-click any single vehicle icon on the map to open a contextual menu and perform tasks involving that vehicle:

The menu options, and therefore the tasks that you can perform, vary by subscription but might include all or some of the following:

  • Show Vehicle: Opens the Vehicle Details pop-up dialog box

  • Assign Driver: Opens the driver assignment dialog box from which you can changing the driver assigned to the vehicle

  • Edit Vehicle: Opens the Edit Vehicle dialog box

  • Show Fuel Log: Opens the vehicle's fuel log

  • Show Maintenance Log: Opens the vehicle's maintenance log

  • Zoom to Vehicle: Zooms the main map to the vehicle's current location

  • Create a Marker Here: Opens the Enter New Marker Details dialog box, used to create a new marker

  • Create a Job Here: Opens the Add Job dialog box, used to create a new job at the vehicle's location. If your account includes a subscription to Verizon Connect® Dispatch™, and the territory containing the vehicle has been configured to use it (by opening Jobs & Routes > Territories, clicking the territory name, selecting the Properties tab and then checking the 'Use new Response' box), then Dispatch opens, and the Create Job dialog box opens automatically.

  • Latest Inspection Report: Opens the most recent DVIR inspection form submitted for the vehicle

  • Add to History: Opens the map History layer, and adds to vehicle to the history

  • Poll Vehicle: Polls the vehicle (asks the vehicle to report its current status and location)
