When you get turn-by-turn directions, the map displays information about your route and provides several options that are described below.
Some map icons fade out after a short delay to declutter the screen. Tap the map once to reactivate the hidden icons. If you have Motion Lock enabled in your account, the icons are not visible while your vehicle is moving.
Before you begin to drive, the directions panel at the top of Guidance view tells you which street you are starting on, and which direction you need to head in to get to your destination.
If the Current Speed and Limit Display Always On option on the Settings > General screen is turned on, the current speed limit and current speed are always displayed on Guidance and FollowMe views. If this setting is turned off, the current speed limit and current speed are displayed on those views only when you exceed the speed limit.
If the Enhanced Turn Notifications option on the Settings > General screen is turned on, you will notice the following when you are less than 400 meters from a turn:
-
The background color of the directions panel changes.
-
The Turn icon blinks, and a clicking sound is repeated at regular intervals (if your device is not muted).
If the Enable Last Mile Satellite Map View option on the Settings > General screen is turned on and you have a cellular connection, the map changes to satellite view when you are within a set distance of your destination. To change the map to the default view tap the Map Control icon to open the Map Type and Map Details popup menu and then set the Default option to "On".
If you generated the route from a Marker Search, the Last Mile feature ensures that the marker’s arrival notes are announced and displayed. When you are approximately 400 meters from the marker, the arrival notes are announced verbally. When you arrive at the marker, the arrival notes are displayed on the Arrival screen.
If the traffic flow layer has been set to “On” (by tapping the Map Control icon to open the Map Type and Map Details popup menu, and then setting the Traffic toggle to "On") and you have a cellular connection, a traffic flow layer can be displayed on the map. This layer is displayed only when the app identifies that your driving activity requires it (for example, when you are driving in a city or searching for a destination), and while you are manually interacting with the map. The layer switches off after two minutes of no map interaction, and reactivates after you tap the map.
The traffic flow layer uses color to indicate the current state of traffic flow on the roads.
-
Red: heavy traffic
-
Amber: medium traffic
-
Yellow: light traffic
Note that green roads, where there is no traffic, do not show on the Route Overview screen or on Guidance view.
The red, amber, or yellow layer is displayed on top of the blue route where necessary. Two-way streets can have two colors - one color for each direction, to show the different traffic flows.
To turn the traffic flow layer off, tap the Map Control icon to open the Map Type and Map Details popup menu, and then set the Traffic toggle to “Off”.
When you are navigating in Guidance view, the Current Road Label is displayed on the lower part of the screen. This label helps you to verify which road you are currently driving on.

Note
When the traffic flow layer is set to “On”, it is displayed only when the app identifies that your driving activity requires it (for example, when you are driving in a city or searching for a destination), and while you are manually interacting with the map.
If you are less than one mile from your destination and the Enable Last Mile Satellite Map View option on the Settings > General screen is turned on, you can choose between the default map view and the satellite map view.
