The Parameters tab lets you define when and how an alert triggers. Below is an example of the Parameters tab for the InSight Alert "Speeding Against Speed Limit":
The Parameters tab lets you specify a subset of the following values, depending on the type of alert:
Value |
Description |
---|---|
Type |
The type of InSight Alert you are creating or editing. The type is specified when the alert is first created. |
Name |
The name of the InSight Alert. This should be a name that helps you identify the alert in notifications. |
Item Type |
The type of collection that the alert applies to. This can be a fleet, a team, or an install type. Once you have specified an item type, the following control lets you specify the particular fleet, team, or asset type you want the alert to apply to. |
Fleet, Team |
Depending on the Item Type, the next drop-down lets you pick a specific instance of the specified type of item that the alert applies to. |
Marker |
This control is displayed only for Marker, In Polygon, or Speeding In Marker alerts. Select a specific marker that causes the alert to trigger. The alert goes on when a vehicle arrives at the marker and off when it departs. The list contains only markers in the territories that you have permission to access. If the marker you want to add is not listed, contact your administrator. |
Marker Category |
This control is displayed only for Category and Not at valid category alerts. Select a marker category that causes the alert to trigger. For category alerts, the alert goes on when a vehicle arrives at the marker and off when it departs. For Not at valid category alerts, the alert triggers when a vehicle stops at any marker not in this category. |
Tag Settings |
This control is displayed only for License Class alerts. Select a list of tags that should match between vehicle and driver. To add a tag to the list, select it in the drop-down list of defined tags that opens and click the Add button. To remove a tag from the list, select the tag then click the Remove button. |
Zone |
This control is displayed only for Zone arrival and Zone alerts. Select the type of zone (City, State, or Zip code) and enter the name of the zone in the Zone field. You can enter partial names: the alert triggers for any zone whose name includes the string you specify (partial matches). |
Speed Limit |
This control is displayed only for Speeding alerts. Enter the maximum speed the vehicle can travel before triggering the alert. This value should be below 100 MPH (161 km/h). |
Grace Days |
This control is displayed only for Driver License or Driver Insurance alerts. Enter the number of days before the expiration date that the alert triggers. |
Idle Limit |
This control is displayed only for Idling alerts. Enter the amount of idling that is allowed before the alert triggers. |
Use Speed Category |
This control is displayed only for Speeding Against Speed Limit alerts. Indicates if speed limits can be inferred from road category when no explicit speed limit is known. |
Use Marker Speed Limit |
This control is displayed only for Speeding Against Speed Limit alerts. Indicates if speed limits applied to zone markers should be used when the posted speed limit is not known. |
Use Smart Speeds |
This control is displayed only for Speeding Against Speed Limit alerts. Indicates if an alert should be triggered only if the vehicle's speed exceeds the posted speed limit (and threshold) and Smart Speed. Smart Speeds are dynamic road speeds, calculated based on a variety of factors, such as average traffic speed, from all traffic on a particular road. If the posted speed limit is incorrect or out of date, Smart Speeds can be a better indicator of the actual speed limit. |
Ignore speeding threshold |
This control is displayed only for Speeding Against Speed Limit alerts. Indicates whether or not to ignore the speeding threshold and raise an alert if the vehicle exceeds the exact value of the posted speed limit. |
Use speeding threshold if set |
This control is displayed only for Speeding Against Speed Limit alerts. Indicates if the vehicle is allowed to exceed the posted speed limit by the percentage specified as the Speeding Threshold on the Vehicles tab of the Settings dialog box. If the speeding threshold is not set, raise an alert if the vehicle exceeds the exact value of the posted speed limit. |
Use custom speeding threshold |
This control is displayed only for Speeding Against Speed Limit alerts. Indicates if the vehicle is allowed to exceed the posted speed limit by the percentage or speed (mph or km/h) specified below. Set the value and select between Percent and either mph or km/h. |
Diagnostic Parameter |
This control is displayed only for Gauge diagnostic and Switch diagnostic alerts. Select the type of diagnostic input that causes the alert to go on. |
Minimum of Range |
This control is displayed only for Gauge alerts. The alert triggers if the input value is below this threshold unless the Activate when inside of range check box is selected. |
Maximum of Range |
This control is displayed only for Gauge alerts. The alert triggers if the input value is above this threshold unless the Activate when inside of range check box is selected. |
Activate when inside of range |
This control is displayed only for Gauge alerts. When selected, the alert triggers when input values are between the minimum and maximum value, rather than when values are outside of the specified range. |
Activate when off |
This control is displayed only for Switch diagnostic alerts. When selected, the alert triggers when input values are "off". |
Only if the light bar is off |
This control is displayed for Speeding, Speeding Against Speed Limit, Idle, Switch Diagnostic, Event Diagnostic and Gauge Diagnostic alerts. When selected, these alerts are ignored when the vehicle's light bar is activated (for example, on an emergency vehicle). |
Aggressive |
Select the Aggressive check box to make the alert aggressive. Aggressive alerts trigger as soon as the Time to trigger elapses, regardless of whether or not another report comes in confirming that the exception is still occurring. For more information about aggressive alerts, see InSight Alerts: under the hood. |
Only if the ignition is on |
Select this check box to trigger an alert only if the vehicle's ignition is on. |
Ignore unreliable location data |
Select this check box to ignore data from location points if the GPS quality is unreliable (for example, if the GPS is off, or there is no satellite fix). |
Time to trigger |
Indicate how many minutes should elapse after the alert condition is first detected before the alert triggers. Minimum of 1 minute for "Idle" alert types. For more information about how this works, see InSight Alerts: under the hood. |
Severity |
Alerts can be "Normal", "Major", or "Critical". |
Severity Color |
Specify the color that is used to highlight the alert. Typically, the color is used to reflect the severity of the alert. |
Insight Alert Disabled |
Select this check box to temporarily disable this InSight Alert. |
Add Alert to Scorecard |
Select this check box to add this InSight Alert to your scorecards. |
