This article describes how to create an install type for your EAT (Equipment Asset Tracker) and EAT-B (Equipment Asset Tracker with Battery) devices and assign the install type to your vehicles using the Fleet user interface.
Verizon Connect's EAT and EAT-B tracking devices provide your organization with accurate geolocation reporting of your assets, plus alerts for asset conditions, such as low battery or loss of GPS.
-
From the Tasks section of the navigation bar select Install Types to open the Install Types screen.
-
Click Create.
-
On the Details tab of the new install type, complete the Name field. Give your install type a descriptive name that reflects the parameters of the install type; for example, "EAT Daily 60s on movement".
-
From the Primary Device Type drop-down list, select “EAT_Powered” or “EATB_Battery”.
-
Select a value from the Daily reporting rate drop-down list. This value determines how often the device sends location data when the vehicle is stationary.
-
Select a value from the Moving reporting rate drop-down list. This value determines how often the device sends location data when the vehicle is moving.
Note
Frequent reporting rates increase the battery usage, which results in EAT-B devices needing more regular recharging. If you change the reporting rate after the install type has been applied to a vehicle, it can take up to 24 hours for the changes to become effective.
-
For the 2 / 3 Wire Configuration field do the following:
-
For EAT_Powered devices the options are as follows:
-
“3-wires”: Select this option if the device’s ignition wire is connected to the vehicle.
-
“2-wires”: Select this option if the device’s ignition wire is not connected to the vehicle.
-
-
For EAT-B_Battery devices this field is set to the default value of “3-wires”.
-
-
Click Save. You can now assign the install type to your vehicles.
For more information about install types, see the Install Types Overview help page.
Note
You can edit an existing install type by selecting it from the left panel on the Install Types screen, and then changing its parameters on the Details tab, as described above. When you edit an existing install type, the changes you make are applied to all of the vehicles that currently have the install type assigned to them, but it can take up to 24 hours for the changes to become effective. The configuration status on the Details tab tells you if the changes to the install type were successful, are pending, or failed.
Once you have created the install types for your EAT and EAT-B devices, you can configure your vehicles by applying the install type to them.
You can do this from the following Fleet screens:
-
Fleets and Teams: To add an install type to individual vehicles or multiple vehicles.
-
Hierarchy: To add an install type to individual vehicles or multiple vehicles.
-
Vehicles > Edit Vehicle > Hardware Page: To add an install type to a single vehicle.
The configuration status of a vehicle that has been assigned an EAT or EAT_B install type is represented by one of three icons:
-
: The configuration was completed successfully. This means that the updates to the install type were successfully applied to the relevant vehicles. It can take up to 24 hours for the configuration to be completed.
-
: The configuration is pending.
-
: The configuration has failed. Click Try again to attempt to apply the configuration again.
Note
The icons shown above are displayed only for vehicles that have an EAT or EAT-B device install type assigned to them.
You can check the configuration status of your vehicles on the following Fleet screens:
-
Install Types > Details tab: The status of the vehicles is displayed in the Vehicle Configuration section. Note that the status icons are displayed only if the install type is already applied to your vehicles. If you create a new install type, the configuration icons are not shown on the Details tab until the install type is assigned to a vehicle.
-
Install Types > Vehicles tab > Configuration Status column: The status of the vehicles is displayed under the Configuration Status column.
-
Vehicles > Edit Vehicle > Hardware Page: The status of the vehicle is displayed under the Install Type field.
-
Fleets and Teams > Vehicles tab: The status of the vehicles is displayed under the Configuration Status column.
-
Hierarchy > Vehicles tab: The status of the vehicles is displayed under the Configuration Status column.
If the configuration process continuously fails, please contact support.
