FleetNav Fuel Plan Warnings and Errors

Introduction

This article describes the current state of reporting of fuel plan warnings and errors for FleetNav Alert customers with dispatch integration, as well as a description of planned changes to how they are reported.

Within the FleetNav Alert system, errors and warnings about fuel plans are visible in FleetNav Monitor, Fuel Plan Generator (FPG), and in dispatch messages sent to Navigation clients via the FleetNav > Navigation dispatch integration.

Two configuration settings determine the behavior of these applications when fuel warnings or errors are encountered. One setting applies to FleetNav Alert, Monitor, and Navigation dispatch messages. The second setting applies only to FleetNav Fuel Plan Generator.

When no fuel plan can be calculated due to an unrecoverable error

An unrecoverable error usually occurs due to one of the following situations:

A fuel station included in the plan cannot be routed to.
A dispatch stop included in the plan cannot be routed to, and therefore a fuel plan cannot be generated.
The requested fuel network does not contain any valid fuel stations.
There has been an internal system error.

Navigation Dispatches will contain the original dispatch stops, plus a placeholder stop containing an error message about the fuel plan failure.

FleetNav Monitor plan details will display the error message about the fuel plan failure. No plan is recorded for the dispatch.

Fuel Plan Generator will behave according to the value of its fuel deficit response configuration setting:

The "revert" setting causes FPG to attempt to calculate a route without a fuel plan, while reporting "No fuel solution available".
The "abort" setting or no setting value causes FPG to abort any attempt to calculate a route, and reports an error.

When there are no fuel directions included because no potential fuel stations could be located within the corridor around the dispatch route line

Navigation Dispatches will contain the original dispatch stops only.

FleetNav Monitor plan details will use the original dispatch stops, without a warning or error.

Fuel Plan Generator will calculate a route through the original stops, and show the message "NO FUEL STOPS" at the beginning of the directions.

When a fuel plan solution violates one of the minimum, stop, or destination reserve levels

The contents of Navigation Dispatches depends on the fuel deficit behavior configuration setting:

The "no fuel" setting sends the original dispatch stops only, without any warning message.
The "use plan" setting sends the entire fuel plan, including fuel stops, without any warning message.
The "abort" setting sends the original dispatch stops, plus a placeholder stop containing a warning message about the violation. This option is not used by any customer at the moment.

FleetNav Monitor plan details view behavior depends on the value of the fuel deficit behavior configuration setting:

The "no fuel" setting discards the fuel stops, but records a warning message about the violation. The plan will only include the original dispatch stops.
The "use plan" setting preserves the fuel stops in the plan, and records a warning message about the violation.
The "abort" setting raises an error and no plan is recorded.

Fuel Plan Generator will behave according to the value of its fuel deficit response configuration setting:

The "revert" setting causes FPG to attempt to calculate a route without a fuel plan, while reporting "No fuel solution available."
The "abort" setting causes FPG to abort any attempt to calculate a route, and reports an error.
No setting value causes FPG to continue calculating the route with the fuel plan.

When a fuel plan solution violates multiple minimum, stop, or destination reserve levels

Only one reserve level violation is reported. Warnings about the first leg of the fuel plan override warnings about the last leg of the fuel plan, which override any warnings about legs in the middle of the fuel plan. The complete ordered list is:

First leg of fuel plan:

a. Will consume all fuel.

b. May consume all fuel.

c. May use fuel in the stop reserve.
Last leg of fuel plan:

a. Will consume all fuel.

b. May consume all fuel.

c. May use fuel in the destination reserve.
Other legs of fuel plan:

a. May use fuel in the minimum reserve.

Whichever violation is reported, the behavior for Navigation Dispatches, FleetNav Monitor, and Fuel Plan Generator is the same as if a single reserve level was violated.

Fuel Plan Error Messages Explained

The following table describes common fuel plan error messages and their remedies (if available).
